I just bought another Xbox One after having sold mine a few months ago, and as always I find I prefer the slower cars...probably because I’m driving with a controller, but whatever. So has there ever been an Oppo Forza 24 Hours of Lemons/Chumpcar type of series?

Basically I was thinking class D (initially I thought E, but D is at least a little more exciting and provides more options) and I toyed with the idea of a price limit, maybe $50k all-in...but honestly, who the hell cares if you want to buy an expensive car to start with? Class D is class D.

I haven’t thought about rules or tracks yet, mostly just seeing if anybody would be interested in this.

I’d be in if the race times worked with my schedule. Too often I just can’t fit time in for the other Oppo race leagues because of second job, exercise, cooking dinner, doing things with wife and/or dogs, etc.

Maybe require cars to be D-whatever or under when stock and then allow something like $10k worth of upgrades?

Additionally, no adjustable aero and stock tires are required in order to keep things interesting.

If it happens after the end of this month I’d be down.

that would be cool. I’d say just have everyone meet the same performance level - otherwise calculating what every thing costs will drive someone nuts.

I would also enjoy doing an IROC type of event - everyone in the same stock car. I’ve played it online a few times, and it’s pretty good racing since everyone is on equal footing.

I wonder if going with drag tires would properly simulate crappy tires with cars lacking enough power to use them. Definitely enough of an axe in the head to roadholding.

My job involved sports so my schedule was dictated by the fact that everything happens at night. And since I’m not a morning person at all, that meant I stayed up all night after getting home at midnight. I normal hours now... but also a life. CURSES!

That's not a bad idea, I'm gonna mess around with that later and see how it works...my worry would be that it would raise still raise the PI because of the better acceleration and launch.

So this sounds much more fun than the faster stuff, but I’ve never done any community organized races, nor any online stuff in Forza for that matter... any pointers for a total beginner? How does one participate in this kind of stuff or prepare?

i’d discourage this unless you want to be wrecked all the time. ideally you’d have people that could handle the decreased road holding, but nothing is ideal and you will be wrecked.

I was mostly just spitballing, but if the cars are crappy enough they probably can’t lose the road too horribly. As long as it’s not a course with long straights to turn crapcans into missiles, of course. I know somebody who puts the drag tires on a muscle car, jacks up the performance, and then runs his races with cosmetic damage only for maximum HURRRR but I was thinking there might be a semi-sane variation on that.

I think I’d go with a mix...I was just messing around at Lime Rock with three pretty eclectic cars (88 Monte Carlo SS at 350hp or so, 90 Civic SI at 250hp, and the MR2 SC at like 200hp) and even with the horsepower differences they were all within a second and a half of each other. It'll be fun to see the heavy/powerful cars try to hang with the little guys on short tracks, and vice versa on quicker tracks. Nothing like Le Mans or Nurburgring though, obviously.

I actually haven’t done one of the Oppo online series before either. Generally what they’ll do (since I’ve prepared cars for them before) is make a rules sheet that tells you exactly what’s allowed and not allowed and a time to shoot for on a certain track. As an example, the three cars I just set up we’re all 400s all ran 1:05-1:06 at Lime Rock even though they’re all SUPER different cars.

As for the actual race, just don't drive like a jerk, haha. I'm not going to go too nuts with enforcement of anything. There's an Oppo club on Forza6, so that's how you'd get the race invites and such. I'll let you know when I publish the rules and all that.

Yea I’m in the Oppo club in Forza Horizons 2 but haven’t played FM6 that much yet. What I’m still trying to figure out is how you find the events and sign up and those kind of details outside of the race.

In the race I obviously wouldn’t go ramming people off the road or any of that kind of tomfoolery. I’m content bringing up the rear of the pack and just participating - I’m no pro at this. I only picked up the XBox last Christmas and played Grand Tourismo on the PS3 prior to that..

My understanding is that you’d do it as a single race in Forza, we would be keeping score outside of it. I’ll check it out this weekend, I just spent some time putting cars together, I’m pretty sure I’ve got the formula down...I built ten different cars, if you take out the fastest and the slowest they’re 1.5 seconds per lap apart at Watkins Glen. Even if you leave the fastest and slowest in its only 3 seconds difference.

No, I just keep getting scheduled to work on Wednesdays and forgetting about the Tuesday ones until they’re already going on... My free time comes primarily on weekday mornings, which makes it near impossible to organize things with groups.

A season finisher at a big track like the Ring could be a fun one though.

I was just thinking a fun series would be running cars you own. Yes the power and vehicle difference would be huge, but maybe add a handicap and, because I trust oppos to do the right thing, tell them the only upgrades are upgrades currently on the vehicle to make it as close to your current vehicle as possible. If said model isn’t in the game, the car closest to it would be allowed.

I kinda like the idea of a morning race. I'm almost always up early and my wife sleeps a bit later, so that would work. I think I've got the rules pretty well thought out, so hopefully we can get a time and schedule figured out this week.
